Homework and Spellings

Homework Expectations 2019-2020

At Wenlock, we believe that homework should support and develop the children’s learning inside of school. We also believe that the children should be allowed to develop their own creative interests through project work that is based around what they are interested in within their given subject or topic.

Homework is a non-negotiable part of life at Team Wenlock and prepares our children further for the next stage in their education journey to Key Stage 3. The children are provided with plenty of time to complete the tasks, as well as to seek assistance and guidance from their teachers or staff in school if they require.

Project Work (Year 3 to begin in the Summer Term)

Children will be given a theme to work upon. This will be linked the children’s History, Geography, Art, RE, Science, PSHCE or PE topic for that half term. The children have the freedom to complete whatever it is that they want in order to show what they have learnt about an area within that topic.

Half Termly

A note will be found inside the children’s Communication Book which identifies the Theme for the project, as well as the completion and hand in date.

In place of the Project Work during the Autumn and the Spring Term, Year 3 are set Home Learning Tasks. These tasks are provided at the beginning of the term, and the children have a choice of which task to complete each week. These Home Learning Tasks are based around their current Theme in school. From the Summer Term, they will then move on to the Project Work that is completed in Year 4 and Year 5.

Year 6

Year 6 homework is set to support their learning in preparation for their End of Key Stage 2 SATs tests. They are set weekly homework online using the Rising Stars program. Each child is provided with a user name and password to access the work. Teachers in Year 6 set work based on the areas of the National Curriculum that they are covering in school that week. Frequent lunch time clubs are provided to help children who are struggling to access or understand the work.
